In early 2014, the Coding with Kids founders set up their first after-school coding clubs at their children’s schools. Fast forward a decade and hundreds of Coding with Kids instructors are bringing awesome tech experiences to thousands of aspiring coders around the US and the world, both in person and through live online classes.
OUR STORY
In 2010, Marek Brejl was on vacation on Hawaii with his family while he also did some coding work for his job at Microsoft. This is where he had an early insight that came to inspire his global mission: Long before the trend (now necessity) of working remotely became common, Marek saw the power of being able to code from anywhere in the world with an internet connection.
This prompted him to begin teaching his own young children to code. They became the first of thousands, and now tens of thousands.
In December 2013, he and co-founder Jitka Brejlova wanted to bring the benefits of coding to their local community. They volunteered to run the "Hour of Code" at their children's local schools in Redmond, WA. Going from classroom to classroom, they enjoyed coding with over three hundred 4th and 5th graders throughout the Computer Science Education Week.
What followed was a humbling validation of Marek’s vision of a coding academy. Over 200 thank you cards were received from the kids with requests to come back soon. By the end of the week, over 80 kids were registered for future after-school classes. Coding with Kids was born.
There was no funding. No office. No salary for the first year. But there was lots of experience, excitement and purpose. We wanted to inspire kids to think and create, rather than just use existing technology.
Today, Coding with Kids has trained over 55,000 children, including partnering with Amazon's Future Engineer program to bring their world-class curriculum to kids from underrepresented populations. It has been featured on NBC's Today Show and is recognized as the nation's leading training program teaching kids to code.
Now Coding with Kids is on a mission to bring the highest quality coding education to children no matter where they are on the planet. Every child deserves an opportunity to learn this fun and lucrative skill that gives access to quality employment without having to migrate. Coding with Kids unleashes the creativity and capacity that is lying latent within children in communities around the world, who will create the next great solutions from which we will all benefit.

CS CURRICULUM FOR AGES 5-18
Coding with Kids has developed one of the best and most comprehensive Computer Science Programs on the market. Our curriculum is carefully designed by a team of professionals with Software Engineering and Education backgrounds. Both the Coder's Ladder® and Coder's Pathways® programs offer continuous progression of studies from beginner to master levels. We focus on teaching real world skills that matter to expert coders while making our project-based lessons really fun for all students!

800+ U.S. PARTNER SCHOOLS
Coding with Kids partners with schools and districts to teach afterschool enrichment classes, middle school electives, or high school AP courses - both locally and virtually. At first, we started in our home region, the Greater Seattle Area, and expanded to other US metro areas in a number of US states. In 2018, we also launched Live Online Programs to make our classes accessible to students in all US states, including underserved areas.

Coding with Kids pioneered Live Online delivery of coding classes in 2018. We have since perfected the craft of teaching virtually and are now serving students in time zones across the globe - in the UK, Canada, India, China, and more.

DATA AT YOUR FINGERTIPS
We are coders and we love data. Our team has built a system that brings meaningful information to all of our customers - students, parents, instructors, managers, education program coordinators, and school administrators. Parent accounts keep all their student data organized in one place - class registrations, schedules, progress reports, logins, and more. Instructors can find everything on their dashboard - from class schedules and rosters to lesson plans and scorecards. For schools, we provide parent communications and flyers, online registrations, student rosters, parent contact lists, and anything else that’s needed to manage our programs on site.

SCHOLARSHIPS
Coding with Kids has directly provided scholarships to hundreds of our students. In 2019, we also partnered with Amazon, who sponsored additional scholarships as part of the Amazon Future Engineer program.
